The scope of the scheme is to widen both the Northbound and Southbound carriageways of the existing A500 from two to three lanes between Wolstanton and Porthill Junctions. The scheme also includes the construction of a shared footpath / cycleway adjacent to the northbound hardened verge and the replacement of the existing central reserve.
Kilkern are responsible for the provision of all labour, plant and supervision for all site clearance, earthworks, installation of new drainage, ducting, and construction of the footpath, cycleways and carriageway up to subgrade.
We have undertaken additional works on site such at waterproofing the bridge deck and
Kilkern have currently completed the Contract works on the NB and SB successfully and are now progressing well on the central reservation working during the night to minimise the impact on the traffic flow on the A500 during the day.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis Kilkern have worked in partnership with our client Geoffrey Osborne and have revised our working methodology to ensure operatives remain two metres apart. Some of the changes implemented include the hire of additional vans so each operative can commute to and from site in their own van and we have hired additional welfare facilities and purchased additional PPE.
On completion of the project Kilkern will have installed approximately:
- 1800lm of carrier and filter drain at varying dia and depth
- 500lm of NFD
- 45 catchpits
- Installation 1no special vortex separator
- 1500lm of ducting and associated boxes
- 2000lm of a mixture of kerbs , edgings , KDU’s
- 1000lm of new footpath
