The scope of work included the installation of new carrier drain and catchpits including carriageway reinstatement along Chapel Lane to alleviate flooding that would occur annually from the surrounding fields. Kilkern were responsible to provide all labour, plant, materials and supervision to undertake the works.
Investigation works had to be undertaken at the start of the project to prove the design which involved a significant amount of hand digging and vacuum excavation to determine existing drainage and service lines and locations. We identified that the existing drawings did not match the service and drainage locations below ground and the project was re-designed.
Once the design was finalised, we installed 800lm of carrier drain varying from 150mm to 900mm dia including associated Catch pits installed at various depths using proprietary trench support and sheet piles where required.
The works were adjacent to various properties and access to the properties and footpaths had to maintained at all times. We built good working relationships with the residents and received high praise at the end of the project with one resident emailing the Employer with the following:
“Thank you to the Teams who have been working on the drainage installation over the past few months. The teams have been more than accommodating and helpful as well as extremely courteous to all the neighbours, especially us as a family”.
The project was successfully delivered incident free and on time.
