Kilkern groundworkers and deep drainage operatives were supplied to Instalcom and Morrison Utilities to work around the clock to get the northern approach to the Blackwall Tunnel open in time for Christmas.
Diversions on the major east London route had been in place following a burst water main and collapsed sewer for almost a week, causing long delays for motorists.
A rapid response team from Kilkern worked day and night to help carry out the repair, to get the road reopen before Christmas days ahead of schedule.
At the time Mark Taylor, Thames Water head of programme delivery, said: We’re delighted to have finished in time for Christmas. Our teams were prepared to work through the holidays and even Christmas Day if it was needed, but fortunately that?s not now the case.
We’re really sorry for the traffic disruption this has caused over the last week but the emergency repair work was essential to ensure the road was safe for drivers. Hopefully now we can all enjoy a merry Christmas.
