Hardstanding and access roads progress at Lostock Sustainable Energy Plant

Kilkern is continuing to make strong progress on the hardstanding and access road package at the Lostock Sustainable Energy Plant (LSEP) near Northwich, supporting the delivery of one of the UK’s flagship low-carbon energy projects.
Work began in October 2025, with the Kilkern team delivering key infrastructure to support the future operation of the facility. The package includes the construction of new access roads, a 1,125m² car park and 1,670m² of footpaths, alongside PCC kerbs and edgings. The project also features 6,620m² of in-situ concrete slabbing, creating safe and secure access and parking areas across the site.

LSEP is being developed as a joint venture between Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and FCC Environment. Once operational, the facility will use residual waste – material remaining after recyclable elements have been removed – to generate energy.
The plant is expected to export 69.9MW of electricity to the grid, generating enough power for around 125,000 homes – equivalent to more than two-thirds of households across Cheshire West and Chester.
Extended Kilkern involvement
Kilkern’s involvement at LSEP also includes groundworks, underground services, water mains installation and connections, as well as the construction of an attenuation tank to strengthen stormwater management across the site.

Patrick Curran, Director at Kilkern, said: “The progress being made at Lostock Sustainable Energy Plant reflects the strength of collaboration across the project team and the commitment of everyone involved on site. This is a significant infrastructure project for the region and we are proud to be contributing our civil engineering and utilities expertise to support its successful delivery.
“Projects like LSEP play an important role in the UK’s transition towards more sustainable energy solutions and it is rewarding to see the development continuing to move forward at pace.”
