Kilkern in the Community

At Kilkern, we firmly believe in playing our part in our communities.

Since setting up the business, we have committed to an active corporate social responsibility and community support programme which includes activities as diverse as helping military veterans taking their first steps back in Civvy Street to grass roots support of sports teams across the UK and Ireland.

Sponsorship for Oughterard Boxing Club

Kilkern is proud to be extending its community and sport programme with the sponsorship of new kit for Oughterard Boxing Club.

Kilkern director, Patrick Curran, said he was delighted that the business is able to offer some practical support to the County Galway club.

“The history of Oughterard Boxing Club is one of endeavour and commitment and the club has flourished despite starting with slender resources – legend has it that on formation there was only one pair of boxing gloves,” he said.

“It is now an important part of the town’s social and community life and has produced many talented boxers over the years that have gone on to achieve success both at amateur and professional level.

“At Kilkern we set great store in supporting grassroots sports and we are proud to be playing our part in Oughterard Boxing Club’s story.”

Kilkern reveals new shirt sponsorship for Blackwood RFC

Blackwood Rugby Club and Kilkern have announced a new sponsorship deal which will see the civil engineering and infrastructure specialist take the first team’s front-of-shirt spot.

The agreement will also see the company’s specialist vacuum excavation business VAC UK take a slot on the shoulder of the South Wales club’s distinctive red, amber and black strip.

Blackwood Rugby Football Club was founded in 1889 and has been a member of the WRU – Welsh Rugby Union since 1918. The 1st XV is currently playing in Division Two East of the Welsh National League from the Club’s home at Glan-Yr-Afon Park.

Kilkern Director, Patrick Curran believes that Blackwood’s strong community focus means that the Sirhowy Valley club is a natural fit.

“We take our role in the community very seriously,” he said. “The nature of our work, whether highways, civil engineering, labour supply or vacuum excavation  means that we are continually out-and-about and engaged with the public so we feel that it is important that we try to play our part.

“At Kilkern we believe that sport is incredibly important in pulling people together and nowhere is that more evident than in the South Wales Valleys where the rugby club is often at the heart of the community. We are delighted to be able to add our support to the club.

“One of our principal UK depots is in South Wales so the Blackwood RFC announcement is an important addition to our existing sports and community sponsorships across the UK.”

The first shirt was presented by Kilkern’s Southern Operations Manager Joanne Ashford to Captain Josh Law.

New sports kit for Corpus Christi

When the team at Kilkern heard that Oldham’s Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Primary School didn’t have the required funding for new sports kits it was proud to step in.

Corpus Christi is an outstanding, voluntary aided Catholic Primary School situated in the Diocese of Salford.

Kilkern has provided a new football kit in the school’s distinctive all-royal blue strip with white detailing and new netball kit to the school as well as training equipment.

The School endeavours to create inspired and enthusiastic pupils through its Physical Education and School Sports offerings and that enthusiasm could be clearly seen as the boys kicked off the season with a 10-0 victory!

Patrick Curran, Director of Kilkern said: “We are great believers in the role that sport can play in shaping young lives and providing positive impacts for the local area. At Kilkern we take our own responsibilities to the community very seriously so were pleased to be able to help Corpus Christ with the new kit and equipment.”

County champions win new sponsor

Kilkern has announced its sponsorship of Gaelic Football’s County Galway champions Oughterard Ladies Under 14s team for the forthcoming season.

While the men’s team, Oughterard GAA, was originally founded in the 1920s, the Ladies Gaelic Football Club is only a few years old. Today more than 150 ladies play across all levels and they have already enjoyed considerable success. The Under 14s are preparing for the new season after their achievement secured promotion up two divisions.

The club facilities are situated in Corribdale in the town of Oughterard.

Patrick Curran described the sponsorship as another element of Kilkern’s ongoing commitment to providing support to sports and community initiatives.

“Kilkern has historically had strong connections with the West Coast of Ireland so we are pleased to be able to put something back into the community,” he said. “The Under 14 Ladies had fantastic success last year and we wish them all the best for the forthcoming season.”
