Kilkern successfully concludes Lincolnshire pathway upgrades

Kilkern’s infrastructure and highways specialists have completed a total upgrade of footpaths alongside an important Grantham thoroughfare.

Dysart Road is an east-west corridor running through a residential area to the west of the centre of the Lincolnshire town. The £3M Dysart Road improvement project has seen the successful rebuilding of more than two kilometres of the carriageway and footpaths, from its junction with Sankt Augustin Way to the A1 overbridge.

Kilkern was brought in by main contractor Winvic on behalf of Lincolnshire County Council to focus on rehabilitation of the footpaths. Work included stripping off the resurfacing 5500m2 of footways, installing new pre-cast concrete kerblines, installing new drainage channels, repairing gullies and resetting associated ironworks – both on the footpath and in the carriageway.

The Kilkern team also installed 580m2 of new footway including the installation of new tactile paving at junctions and amended the dropped kerb arrangements.

Significant difference for road users and pedestrians

Patrick Curran, Kilkern Director, believes the works will make a significant difference for both road users and pedestrians.

“This has been a transformative project which, thanks to improved surfaces and upgraded drainage, will deliver smoother journeys for those travelling by car and safer, better footpaths for pedestrians,” he said.

“We understand the impact on the local community, and that’s why our team has ensured we built a great relationship with local residents and received some very positive feedback.

“Despite some challenging weather through the Autumn, we have managed to stay on schedule and, collaborating closely with our client, we are pleased to have been able to achieve formal completion.”
