Octavius appoints Kilkern for innovative University of Salford parking scheme

Kilkern has been brought in by one of the UK’s leading transport hubs specialists to support a major car park upgrade at the University of Salford.
Principal contractor Octavius has selected Kilkern to complete a programme of enabling works at the central Manchester site, to include stripping the surface from the existing car park, carrying out a reduced level dig and installing approximately 4000m3 6C material and liner as an attenuation and piling mat.
Following completion of the piling, Kilkern will install 93 pile caps totalling around 350m3 ahead of Octavius constructing its highly-innovative modular car park system.
Civil engineering and highways infrastructure experts Kilkern will also install drainage works and surface the metal decked car park with a combination of permeable tarmac and permeable blockwork.
Relieving pressure on car parking at the university
The new car park will provide an additional 400+ spaces for the Manchester university helping to ease demand from the staff and more than 26,000 students.
Kilkern director Patrick Curran is pleased to have been selected for the project.

The project is expected to be completed during summer 2025.
